Decent Social Skills Presents: Talking and Active Listening
Practice being social without worrying about messing up! That's what this group aims to do. We take exercises from various social skills classes we've either attended or come up with on our own and practice together. It's 80% practice and 20% theory. Less lecture, more practice!
Let's practice active listening. Talking to an active listener makes it a lot easier to talk about yourself. So the sneaky second goal is to practice talking about yourself.
Active Listening shows your conversation partner that you're with them. This makes talking to you more natural and enjoyable. We will first review some common anti-active listening strategies. Things people might do in order to try to connect that unfortunately has the opposite effect.
The majority of the event will be spent practicing specific active listening skills in short conversations.
