Decent Social Skills Presents: Creating Dynamic Conversations

Date:
Thursday, February 1, 2024 - 6:30pm to 9:00pm

About Decent Social Skills: Practice being social without worrying about messing up! That's what this group aims to do. We take exercises from various social skills classes we've either attended or come up with on our own and practice together. It's 80% practice and 20% theory. Less lecture, more practice!

About this Session: Let's practice making conversations engaging, meaningful and fun through story telling and expecting more from our conversation partner.

By structuring our responses like short stories, we'll make listening more engaging and enjoyable.

Allowing ourselves to expect meaningful answers will make it easier to ask meaningful follow up questions that show our partner that we want to hear them and that they can truly share.

Finally, delaying our validation until they've really contributed to the conversation makes it that much more rewarding for them and demonstrates a higher level of social experience compared to validating every incomplete or partial response and immediately changing topics.

This is a "dry run" event. It's one of the first times we're hosting it. Expect some things to be bumpy or unrefined until we figure out the best format for this event. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome.
